At its “Its Glowtime” event held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled its latest advancements in wearable health technology with the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 10 and the new AirPods Pro 2. These devices feature groundbreaking health functionalities designed to enhance user well-being.

The Apple Watch Series 10 debuts a significant new feature: sleep apnoea detection. This first-ever sleep apnoea notification system will be available not only on the Series 10 but also on the Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Utilizing advanced machine learning and a comprehensive data set from clinical-grade sleep studies, the watch tracks breathing disturbances by analyzing wrist movements during sleep. Users will be alerted if the watch detects consistent patterns of moderate to severe sleep apnoea, a serious disorder characterized by frequent interruptions in breathing. This feature is expected to be rolled out in 150 countries pending FDA approval within the coming months.

In addition to sleep apnoea detection, the new Apple Watch is slimmer and boasts a larger display, continuing to support existing health features such as Afib alerts, cardio fitness tracking, and ECG monitoring.

The AirPods Pro 2 introduce the world’s first all-in-one hearing health experience, featuring active Loud Sound Reduction and a clinically validated hearing test. The AirPods also include an over-the-counter hearing aid function, making hearing assistance more accessible and affordable. This innovative hearing aid feature will be available in over 100 countries and regions, pending marketing authorization from global health authorities later this year.

These updates reflect Apple’s ongoing commitment to advancing health and fitness technology, building on the Health app launched in 2014, which has since incorporated numerous health-focused features across Apple’s device ecosystem.
